The Chili Fire Department received two awards for their involvement in assisting the U.S Military with Operation Wounded Warrior. Last fall the Chili Fire Department collected various items of clothing from the residents of Chili and also from the local elementary schools by making care packages made up of toiletries. Jim Lechner and past Chief Pat Quinn spearheaded the operation for the second year in a row and made it a huge success and also brought the community together for a worthy cause.
That night the Chili Fire Dept. received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commanding Officer of the Wounded Warrior Brigade at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Chief Dave Saur also received a Military Coin of Excellence for his leadership of the CFD's efforts in Operation Wounded Warrior and a "job well done".
A cased American flag, that had flown in Kabul, Afghanistan, in the face of the enemy, along with a Certificate of Authenticity, was presented to the Chili Fire Dept by LTC James O. Lechner, USARMY, SOC., himself a wounded warrior, in appreciation of their support and generosity of Operation Wounded Warrior.
