Just before 9:30PM the Chili Fire Department was dispatched for visible smoke and odor of smoke and plastic burning in one of the apartments at Chili Heights.  Building maintenance was on location already as they were called by one of the other tenants in the building for what they thought was gas and their smoke alarm going off.  Building maintenance found a smoke condition in the next door apartment and immediately alerted all the occupants in that building to evacuate and called 911.  4C43 and 4C53 arrived on location first reporting visible smoke and alarms going off.  First arriving crews quickly found the issue to be in the bathroom ceiling centered around the bathroom exhaust fan.  Crews extinguished the fire with a water can and checked for extension to the other units.  Fire was contained to the bathroom and the smoke condition was ventilated following overhaul.  One cat was safely rescued from the apartment by firefighters and reunited with its family.
